Everyday in life we move forward and leave things behind. In this case we left Bluche behind with all the friends we made there to carry on with our exceptional journey that the Global Bachelor program has had for us. With only Shanghai in mind during the whole summer all of us were anxious to arrive to see what this city has in store for us and the first weeks have been amazing. We have taken a cultural trip of over 1000 km’s around China and already finished a week at Les Roches Jin Jiang.

Les Roches International School of Hotel Management Global Degree students in ChinaWe started off arriving in Shanghai on the 23rd of August and you could immediately sense the excitement around us. We had absolutely no idea what we had ahead of us but we all were extremely eager to face it head on. We started the cultural trip with some hotel visits within Shanghai where we visited a mix of international hotel chains and local hotels. Four Seasons Shanghai and Grand Hyatt Shanghai were the two international hotel chains we visited while the Peace hotel, Jin Jiang hotel and Oasis resort were the three local hotel chains we visited. This gave us as hospitality students a great understanding of the Chinese culture and how hotels operate in China.
Les Roches International School of Hotel Management Global Degree students in ChinaWe also took a city tour of Shanghai, which by far in my opinion was one of the most beneficial parts of the trip as we will be spending a lot of time in Shanghai and it was good for a tour guide to show us around. We visited places like the bund and the CN tower, which are two of the main attractions of Shanghai.

Our trip in Shanghai was over and we moved on to different cities around China to see different parts and experience the different subcultures. The cities we visited include the water town Wu Zhen, Hangzhou, Wuxi and Suzhou where each city had its own charm and beauty. We tasted food famous from the city we were in and also visited famous sight seeing spots they had. We visited the Ling Yin temple and the West Lake in Hangzhou, the great Buddha in Wuxi and different Gardens in Suzhou.

The experiences we gained in the one-week cultural trip we had will definitely help us in the next five months we are going to be spending in Shanghai. We will be looking forward to taking on the challenge of being in a foreign country and not speaking the local language as one big group and we will keep you updated on the way.
