Most of you will have experienced wine tasting at some point or another. But have you ever considered beer tasting?
Did you even know that the type of water that goes in beer has a huge bearing on the flavour of the beer? Or that the foam speaks volume about the quality of the beer?
As a practical excursion for students taking the Food and Beverage module, as well as for those who are interested in the industry, Les Roches organised a beer-tasting visit to the brasserie La Marmotte in Crans Montana, last semester.
Students saw the live process of a brewery and learnt about the stages of producing beer as well as the differences between one beer type and another.
Next year, these students will take part in a competition to design the label for a beer.
Watch this space: the winners will be selected by students and faculty and two beers – a ‘blanche’ and a ‘brunette’ – will appear for sale at different venues on campus in 2014.
