a graduate degree from Les Roches

Welcome to the Graduate School

The purpose of the school is to provide a selection of academic programs at the graduate level of study. The programs have been designed in such a way as to be current and relevant but also foster and advance the scholarly and professional activities in a field of hospitality.

The faculty teaching in these programs have an active academic interest, coupled with vast experience as educators as well as active practitioners. The ethos of the school is to create an environment that stimulates learning and fosters ideas.

As such the graduate school aims to cultivate a culture where students become not only employable but equally passionate about the field of hospitality.

With over 30 nationalities currently studying at the graduate level and a very vibrant student community at the Les Roches campus, the graduate school is an ideal learning environment, enhances entrepreneurship and develops life-long skills that are relevant for the successful careers of our graduates. Our students tend to demonstrate innovative thinking, a dedicated work ethos as well as a high level of professionalism with hospitality etiquette.

I would like to welcome you to the Graduate School and I hope that your education with us will be rewarding and above all enjoyable.

Research and Scholarly Activities

As a part of the graduate school a number of faculty are undertaking both academic and applied research and are engaged in conferences, forums as well as publishing articles in academic journals.

Further, an important element of the MBA and the Master in Hospitality Leadership curricula is the second semester “Applied Research Project” (ARPs), which is a 3-credit capstone course where all students are involved in real business problems encountered by hospitality companies. Among such projects are:

  • 2014: Beau Rivage Palace (five-star hotel), Lausanne. Students proposed a strategy to respond to the implementation of a new five-star hotel in the Lausanne market.
  • 2014: Volcanoes Safaris (Luxurious eco lodges), Rwanda and Uganda. Students studied the positioning, marketing and communication strategy of Volcanoes Safaris, a company running luxurious eco lodges in Rwanda and Uganda.
  • 2015: Le Richmond (five-star hotel), Geneva. Students analyzed the impact of the exchange rate on pricing and ultimately satisfaction of guests (value for money).
  • 2015: Hotel d’Angleterre (five-star hotel), Copenhagen. Students assessed the luxury services approach at the hotel and proposed revised processes and training.
  • 2015: Gleneagles Hotel (five-star hotel), Scotland. Students investigated operational issues and proposed solutions for food and beverage operations (outlets, design, style, processes) and proposed a master plan for a newly acquired plot of land.
  • 2016: Du Parc des Eaux-Vives (four-star hotel), Geneva. Students are researching and setting up a new innovative concept for their management operations.

These ARPs are highly appreciated by students for their exposure to authentic business problems to find innovative solutions. The final project is presented to the senior management team of the companies involved.
